WHAT IS A CLASS III OR NFA ITEM?

National Firearms Act (NFA), Title II (Class III) items commonly available for purchase include select- fire machine guns (“full auto”) manufactured before 19 May 1986 (including certain parts for these firearms), short-barreled rifles and shotguns, suppressors (“silencers”) and any part comprising a suppressor, and a selection of firearms identified as Any Other Weapons (AOW). So-called “Destructive Devices” are also NFA items, but not commonly available to purchase.

CAN I OWN A CLASS III ITEM?

Please note, Class III items are NOT illegal! Most individuals who meet the criterial to own a regular firearm also meet the criterial to own a Class III item as well. The process has a few more steps than the usual firearms purchase transaction, and our team is ready to assist you to ensure success. Below is a list of information for you to follow to make your purchase and begin the process of owning a class III item!

 

NFA / CLASS III PURCHASE PROCESS:

WE ARE NOW PARTNERED WITH SILENCERSHOP! HAVING THEIR KIOSK AT PICKETT WEAPONRY ALLOWS US TO GATHER YOUR FINGERPRINTS AND PASSPORT PHOTO RIGHT AT THE STORE!

1. Come into the store to decide what type of NFA / Class III item you wish to purchase. E.G. Pre 86 Transferable Machine-Gun, SBR, (short barreled rifle) SBS, (short barreled shotgun) Suppressor, (Silencer) or AOW (any other weapon) and pay for the tax stamp.

2. Using your driver’s license and email address, we will help you create a Silencershop account by processing your fingerprints and helping you take your photo. We will then submit your suppressor to Silencershop under your new account for review.

3. Wait for Silencershop to review your submission for your suppressor and email you a DocuSign. Complete the DocuSign on your phone, computer, or tablet.

4. A Pickett Weaponry employee will then contact you about coming into the store or setting up a phone conference to complete your certification and submission to the ATF. This will start your waiting period from the NFA branch of the ATF.

5. You will receive an email from ATF Eforms stating you are approved for your ATF item. We will also give you a call to let you know you have been approved.

6. The last step is to come into the store to complete a 4473 form and take possession of your new NFA item!

WAIT TIMES ARE VERY SPORADIC. IT COULD COME BACK AS QUICKLY AS 1-4 WEEKS OR IT COULD TAKE 6-12 MONTHS. PICKETT WEAPONRY IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR PROCESSING TIME PERIODS. PLEASE BE PATIENT.

IN ALL CASES A 50% RESTOCKING FEE WILL BE CHARGED FOR ALL NON- APPROVALS.
